Tyre pressure warning (TPMS): what to do

Ce symptôme touche votre véhicule ?
DémarrerThe tyre pressure warning light (TPMS – Tire Pressure Monitoring System) indicates low pressure in one or more tyres, or a fault in the monitoring system. Here is what to do when it comes on.
Normal behaviour
On most vehicles the light comes on at start-up then goes out after a few seconds (system check). If it stays on or comes on while driving: pressure is too low or the system is reporting a fault.
First steps
Stop somewhere safe and check the tyres visually (obvious puncture, flat tyre). Check pressure on all four tyres (and spare if fitted) with a gauge, when cold if possible, to the values on the manufacturer plate (door or handbook). Reinflate to the correct level. On many vehicles the light goes out after a few miles once pressure is restored; otherwise reset as per the manual (vehicle menu or dedicated button).
If the light stays on
Pressure correct everywhere: possible faulty sensor (flat battery, damaged sensor) or reset needed. Spare wheel without sensor: normal for the light to stay on if a wheel without a sensor is fitted. Have the system checked at a garage if the light flashes or does not go out after reinflation and reset. My Auto Check-up helps you prepare your garage visit.
