Diagnostic: Oil leak on Citroën - Causes and costs

An oil leak on a Citroën (C3, C4, C5 Aircross, Berlingo) shows as stains under the vehicle, falling oil level or burning oil smell. PureTech (petrol) and BlueHDi (diesel) engines share common leak points with other PSA/Stellantis brands.
Citroën petrol (PureTech)
On PureTech (1.2, 1.6), oil leaks are often linked to the sump gasket, cam cover (gasket), turbo hoses or head gasket. A loose drain plug or oil filter can weep. Cleaning the engine block then driving helps locate the source.
Citroën diesel (BlueHDi)
On BlueHDi, common leaks involve the sump gasket, turbo (hoses, cartridge), oil pump, head gasket or injector seals. A large leak or steadily falling level should be fixed without delay.
What to do
Top up in an emergency to reach a garage, then repair the leak. A professional cleans the engine, locates the leak (dye if needed) and replaces the gasket or faulty part.
Order of magnitude for costs
- Sump gasket: about €150–400.
- Cam cover gasket: about €80–200.
- Turbo hoses: about €100–300.
- Head gasket: about €800–2,000 and more.
- Injector seal (diesel): about €50–150 per injector.
