Diagnostic: Oil leak on Peugeot - Causes and costs

An oil leak on a Peugeot (208, 308, 2008, 3008, 5008) shows as stains under the vehicle, falling oil level or burning oil smell. Depending on BlueHDi (diesel) or PureTech (turbo petrol), common leak points vary.
Peugeot BlueHDi (diesel)
On 1.6 BlueHDi and 2.0 BlueHDi, oil leaks are often linked to the sump gasket, turbo (hoses, cartridge), oil pump or head gasket. Injector seals can leak over time. An aged cam cover gasket can weep. Locating the leak after cleaning the engine block helps target the repair.
Peugeot PureTech (turbo petrol)
On PureTech (1.2, 1.6), common leaks involve the sump gasket, cam cover, turbo hoses (feed/return) or head gasket. A loose drain plug or oil filter can also cause weeping.
What to do
Do not ignore a leak: low level can damage the engine. Top up to reach a garage, then identify and repair the leak (clean, dye if needed, replace gasket or part).
Order of magnitude for costs
- Sump gasket: about €150–400.
- Cam cover gasket: about €80–200.
- Turbo hoses: about €100–300.
- Head gasket: about €800–2,000 and more.
- Injector seal (diesel): about €50–150 per injector.
