The orange check engine light on a Peugeot (208, 308, 2008, 3008, 5008) indicates that the ECU has recorded one or more faults. Whether your vehicle has a BlueHDi (diesel) or PureTech (turbo petrol) engine, the most common causes and repair costs vary.

Peugeot BlueHDi (diesel)

On 1.6 BlueHDi and 2.0 BlueHDi engines, the check engine light often comes on due to a particulate filter (DPF) blockage or an AdBlue issue (level, injector, quality). Lambda sensors and a clogged EGR valve are also common causes. A faulty turbo (geometry, leak) can trigger the warning on high-mileage models.

A forced regeneration of the DPF may be enough if blockage is moderate; otherwise, workshop cleaning or DPF replacement may be required.

Peugeot PureTech (turbo petrol)

On PureTech engines (1.2, 1.6), the check engine light is frequently linked to the lambda sensor, catalyst or an ignition fault (spark plugs, coils). Mass air flow sensors and the evaporative system (fuel cap, canister) can also trigger the warning. On some series, recalls or software updates have been carried out; it is worth checking the vehicle history.

If the light flashes, reduce engine load and have the vehicle checked quickly to limit the risk of catalyst damage.

What to do

As long as the light is steady, it is generally possible to drive moderately to reach a garage. Avoid hard acceleration and long journeys at full load.
