Loss of power on a Peugeot (208, 308, 2008, 3008, 5008) shows as sluggish pickup, insufficient acceleration or lack of torque. Depending on whether your vehicle is BlueHDi (diesel) or PureTech (turbo petrol), causes and costs vary.

Peugeot BlueHDi (diesel)

On 1.6 BlueHDi and 2.0 BlueHDi engines, loss of power is often linked to a blocked particulate filter (DPF) or the AdBlue system (level, injector). A faulty turbo (variable geometry, leak) or clogged EGR valve limit performance. Clogged or faulty diesel injectors cause incomplete combustion and a drop in power.

A forced DPF regeneration may be enough if blockage is moderate; otherwise, DPF cleaning or replacement may be required.

Peugeot PureTech (turbo petrol)

On PureTech engines (1.2, 1.6), loss of power is frequently linked to the turbo (leak, wastegate), MAF sensor or injection system. A clogged air filter reduces air supply and limits power. Worn spark plugs and coils can cause misfires and a feeling of loss of power.

What to do

Avoid hard acceleration and long journeys at full load until the cause is identified. An electronic diagnostic and checks of the turbo, DPF and MAF sensor help pinpoint the cause.

Order of magnitude for costs

  • MAF sensor: about €150–400.
  • Turbo: about €900–2,500 depending on engine.
  • EGR valve: about €350–750.
  • DPF regeneration / AdBlue diagnostic: about €80–220.
  • DPF replacement: about €850–1,900.
  • Diesel injector: about €280–550 per injector.
